Softball Recap: Tuesday's Win Is Phoenix's Eighth in Last Nine Outings

Phoenix came out on top against Etna on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run second inning. The Pirates blew past the Lions 12-2. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.

Jersey Stevenson was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Stevenson was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Carsyn Gallegos was excellent, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. Carsyn Sousa was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Phoenix was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .414 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Phoenix has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Etna, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 17-7.

Phoenix wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, an 8-2 defeat against Grants Pass on the 8th. As for Etna, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-2 loss against Modoc on the 9th.
