Baseball Recap: Lawrence North Comes Up Short

Lawrence North extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 3-7 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the North Central Panthers. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their defeat to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Brendan Boynton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits.

As for North Central, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games.

On North Central's side, not much got past Jackson Dinnsen, who gave up just four hits and racked up six Ks to keep Lawrence North off the board. Dinnsen has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, North Central's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Abel Flessner, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run. Those two hits gave Flessner a new career-high.

While Lawrence North had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
