League recap: Homewood extends winning streak with victory over Shelby County

Homewood extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region 4 this week by beating Shelby County, 69-6. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.

Ramsay made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 11,365 from 11,456. The improvement came about via a 35-0 victory over the Rams last week.

Homewood's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Luke Porter threw for 141 yards and Justin Hardy had 42 yards receiving. On the ground Walter Rutledge chipped in 113 yards. Devonte Wallace helped Homewood's passing attack out by catching four balls for 37 yards.

Doug Goodwin's team's Porter and Wallace have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Porter has thrown for 793 yards this season, while Wallace, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 20 catches for 371 yards. Chilton County's Michael Seaton leads the league in rushing yards with 845.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Talladega takes on the Patriots. The Tigers are currently in fourth, while Homewood is in first.

The Patriots led 5A Region 4 in scoring this week after putting up 69 points on the Wildcats. Hardy ran for 102 yards in the win.
