Softball Recap: Abilene Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Abilene walked away with it. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over the Birdville Hawks on Thursday. The win was nothing new for the Eagles as they're now sitting on three straight.

Avah Reyes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on seven hits.

At the plate, Makayla Gutierrez was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one home run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Germanie Williams, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Abilene's victory bumped their record up to 21-9. As for Birdville, the loss snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 28-4 record.

Abilene will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Hawks: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
