Football Preview: East Newton Patriots vs. Mt. Vernon Mountaineers

The East Newton Patriots will face off against the Mt. Vernon Mountaineers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

East Newton took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Cassville 42-21.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead East Newton to victory, but perhaps none more so than River Enlow, who rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns. Virgil Rosiere was another key receiver, picking up 58 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

East Newton wouldn't let Cassville keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. East Newton can thank Ian Dover and Aidan Wolfe for forcing both of them. Lachlan Letterman was another major factor on D, making 14 total tackles.

Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon made easy work of McDonald County on Friday and carried off a 42-20 victory.

East Newton's win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-1. As for Mt. Vernon, they pushed their record up to 2-1 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.
