Baseball Recap: Saddleback Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Saddleback came into Tuesday's contest having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bolsa Grande Matadors on Tuesday, sneaking past 8-7. This was a revenge game for the Roadrunners: when they faced off against the Matadors on March 13th, they had to take a 6-5 loss.

Joaquin Cornejo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nathan Esquivel, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Saddleback is 2-1 when Esquivel posts two or more runs, but 1-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was David Sanchez, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Saddleback's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 3-10. As for Bolsa Grande, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Matadors beat Saddleback by a score of 19-0 on Friday.
