Football Recap: Cherokee Starts Season with Victory at Home

Cherokee took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They walked away with a 20-7 win over the North Buncombe Black Hawks. For the Braves, this counts as revenge for the 24-21 victory the Black Hawks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2018.

Among those leading the charge was Dawson Panther, who threw for 255 yards and two TDs while picking up 12.8 yards per attempt, and also punched in one rushing score. What's more, he posted -7 rushing yards, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Tsu-La Howlingcrane also helped out as he racked up 101 receiving yards.

Cherokee wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 36-35 defeat against Tuscola on the 29th. As for North Buncombe, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 48-14 win against Rosman on the 29th.
