Football Recap: Cherokee Starts Season with Victory at Home

Cherokee took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They walked away with a 20-7 win over the North Buncombe Black Hawks. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but the Braves were the (much) better team in the second half.

Cherokee found their leader in sophomore Dawson Panther, who threw for 255 yards and two TDs while picking up 12.8 yards per attempt, and also punched in one rushing score. 101 of Panther's passing yards were hauled in by Tsu-La Howlingcrane, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cherokee will welcome Tuscola at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for North Buncombe, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Rosman at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
