Basketball Preview: McKinley Tech Trainers vs. Banneker Bulldogs
McKinley Tech is 5-0 against the Bulldogs since December of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The McKinley Tech Trainers will be playing at home against the Banneker Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in McKinley Tech's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six matches.
On Friday, McKinley Tech faced the Roughriders in a battle between two of the state's top teams. McKinley Tech took a 79-72 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Roughriders. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Wednesday (58), McKinley Tech still had to take the loss.
Meanwhile, Banneker earned a 62-52 victory over the Panthers on Friday. The win made it back-to-back wins for Banneker.
Banneker's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Doran Clausell, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Clausell is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Mekhi Young, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
McKinley Tech's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-9. As for Banneker, their victory bumped their record up to 11-7.
McKinley Tech strolled past the Bulldogs in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 by a score of 59-41. Will McKinley Tech repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
