Sugar-Salem had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against the New Plymouth Pilgrims by a score of 8-5 on Friday. The Diggers are really starting to get used to good results now that the team has won 18 straight dating back to last season.
Dax Crapo looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Sam Chappell was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Dawson McInelly, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Sugar-Salem was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Plymouth only posted a batting average of .182.
New Plymouth is on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.
Looking ahead, Sugar-Salem will be taking part in a tournament against Weiser at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for New Plymouth, they will take on American Falls in a tournament on Saturday.
