Basketball Recap: Fayetteville Christian Falls Despite Big Games from Avery Perusek and Ethan Durgadin

After flying high against The O'Neal School last Wednesday, Fayetteville Christian came back down to earth. The Fayetteville Christian Warriors lost to the Wilmington Christian Academy Patriots on the road by a 67-49 margin on Friday.

Fayetteville Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Ethan Durgadin and Avery Perusek. Durgadin posted 15 points and five assists, while Perusek almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Durgadin's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Skylar James, who had eight points.

Even though they lost, Fayetteville Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wilmington Christian Academy only pulled down one offensive board.

Wilmington Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Trent Davies led the charge by going 6 of 9 on his way to 20 points and three steals. Davies is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last seven games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Mattox, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 13 points and five blocks.

Fayetteville Christian's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-5. As for Wilmington Christian Academy, their record is now 4-6.

Fayetteville Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 72-31 loss against Trinity Christian on the 17th. As for Wilmington Christian Academy, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Floyd County at 11:15 a.m. on December 30th.
