Softball Recap: Lucerne Valley Triumphs

While Lucerne Valley's victory against Silver Valley wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mustangs won by a run and slipped past the Trojans 8-7. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won three in a row.

Genesis Ayala spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Amaya Kelly and Ashlyn Mctiernan did most of the damage at the plate: Kelly went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Mctiernan got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Chloe Evans also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Lucerne Valley's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-9. As for Silver Valley, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Coincidentally, Lucerne Valley and Silver Valley will both be playing Academy of Careers & Exploration the next time they take the field. The Trojans will head out to face the Eagle at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Mustangs will host them at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
