Laurel Highlands recap October 22, 2013
Bishop McCort was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from 11th to ninth in Laurel Highlands. The Crushers beat Cambria Heights 15-6 earlier in the week.
Richland extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Penn Cambria, 44-0. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
Bishop Guilfoyle's dynamic duo of Brandon Chadbourn and Sam McCloskey proved to be unstoppable against Westmont Hilltop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Chadbourn threw for 171 yards and 3 touchdowns and McCloskey had 105 yards receiving. Nick Miller helped Bishop Guilfoyle's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 40 yards.
Nico Pecora made the biggest impact on defense this week as Richland beat the Panthers. The 6-foot-1 senior nabbed 1 interception.
He was 5-7 with 0 interceptions.
Richland's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Rams feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Matt Shaffer has thrown for 1,606 yards and 25 touchdowns this season, while Kyle Flick has 33 catches for 628 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Central Cambria takes on Brandon Bailey's team. At the moment, the Red Devils are in fifth, while the Rams are in first.
Richland took down Penn Cambria 44-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Shaffer threw for 192 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 57 yards during the win.
