Shepherd had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They walked away with a 6-3 win over the Swan Valley Vikings. The Bluejays have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Vikings, too.
Kaden Brown spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits.
On the hitting side, Tucker VanAlstine was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Smith, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Shepherd will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Beal City at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Swan Valley, they will host Garber at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The contest will give the Vikings their first taste of in-conference action this season.
