Softball Game Preview: Fair Grove Eagles vs. Reeds Spring Wolves

The Fair Grove Eagles will challenge the Reeds Spring Wolves at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Fair Grove's favor as the team sits on nine straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Reeds Spring has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.

Fair Grove is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Missouri's top teams: Buffalo, who was ranked 16th at the time (Fair Grove was ranked fourth). The Eagles put the hurt on the Bison with a sharp 9-1 victory on Thursday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Aubrie Voorhis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hali Stokes, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 4-for-4. Gretta Morris was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Fair Grove was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .379 or higher in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Reeds Spring was a bit more limited in their contest on Thursday. They came up short against Clever, falling 24-2.

Reeds Spring saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Britney Nordin, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. Trinity Clevenger also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Fair Grove's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Reeds Spring, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Fair Grove hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .389. However, it's not like Reeds Spring struggles in that department as they've averaged .372. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
