Softball Preview: Washington County Commanders vs. Caverna Colonels

The Washington County Commanders will venture away from home to face off against the Caverna Colonels at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Washington County has nine straight wins, Caverna has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Washington County lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Bardstown, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's game. Lakin Mudd was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Washington County got a massive performance out of Izzy Medley, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs Medley has posted since back in March. Addi Abell was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.

Washington County lost a few balls and finished the game with five home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Caverna couldn't beat Green County on Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fourth inning. The Colonels lost 16-6 to the Dragons.

Summer Sallee was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Dallia Wood also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
