Football Game Preview: Newman Smith Trojans vs. Turner Lions + How To Watch

Newman Smith has gone 8-1 against Turner recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Trojans will head out to square off against the Lions at 7:00 p.m. Newman Smith knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Turner likes a good challenge.

Newman Smith is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing White: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Trojans blew the Longhorns out of the water with a 61-14 final score. The win continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Longhorns: they've now won three in a row.

Maxim Mingo produced another solid performance picking up 52 receiving yards and three TDs. Those three receiving touchdowns gave him a new career-high.

Newman Smith didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Davis Kore, Evan Acton, and Elijah Harrison picked up one apiece. Newman Smith is undefeated when Harrison posts one or more interceptions, but 1-2 otherwise.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 35-6, which was the final score in Turner's tilt against Creekview on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Lions in their meetings with the Mustangs: they've now lost four in a row.

Newman Smith's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Turner, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.

Everything went Newman Smith's way against Turner when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as Newman Smith made off with a 35-14 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
