Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Elisabeth Van Den Berg and Sienna Azzinaro Lead Timothy Christian to Victory

Timothy Christian got their first taste of in-conference action this week and they started things off strong. They put the hurt on the Aurora Christian Eagles with a sharp 63-41 victory on Tuesday. The Trojans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 22 points or more this season.

Leading Timothy Christian to victory were Sienna Azzinaro and Elisabeth Van Den Berg. Azzinaro went 9 for 18 en route to 22 points along with six boards and four steals, while Van Den Berg almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. Those four steals gave Azzinaro a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Annika Lemkuil, who posted eight points and three steals.

Timothy Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Timothy Christian now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Aurora Christian, they dropped their record down to 4-12 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Timothy Christian won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Marian Central Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Aurora Christian, they will take on Wheaton Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Aurora Christian is facing Wheaton Academy at the right time seeing as Wheaton Academy is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
