Baseball Recap: Northview Victorious

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northview). They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Martinsville Artesians on Friday, sneaking past 7-6. That's more bragging rights for the Knights, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Derek Morrison made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That run marked the first that he scored this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson Pierce, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. He also put up two RBI, which were his first of the season. Quinn Lewis was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.

The victory got Northview back to even at 2-2. As for Martinsville, they dropped their record down to 0-3 with the defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Northview will host Greencastle at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Martinsville, they will face off against Greenwood at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Woodmen have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.5 runs per game on average), something the Artesians will no doubt try to take advantage of.
