New Mexico Military Institute was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 25-23, 25-17.
Meanwhile, Dexter beat Jal 3-1 on Monday.
Dexter had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 18-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-11.
Dexter's win came from a few key players New Mexico Military Institute will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Emily DeLaRosa, who had six kills, three digs, and two aces. She has been hot for a while, having also posted 12 or more assists the last 18 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Melody Duran, who had seven kills, five digs, three aces, and one block.
Dexter was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in six consecutive contests.
Dexter's victory bumped their record up to 12-5. As for New Mexico Military Institute, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.
New Mexico Military Institute came out on top in a nail-biter against Dexter in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Will the Colts repeat their success, or do the Demons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
