League recap: Aguilar breaks off league-leading run for Middle Park

2A Flatirons recap Oct. 9, 2012

Moses Aguilar of Middle Park ran for the longest rushing play in 2A Flatirons this season against Bishop Machebeuf last week. Aguilar scampered for 85 yards on the play and finished with 109 on the day as his team topped the Buffaloes.

Middle Park made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,614 from 6,781. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 55-23 victory over Bishop Machebeuf last week.

Alex Stone and Devan Caswell gave The Academy a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Stone threw for 68 yards and two touchdowns, while Caswell ran for 169 yards. Zach Morgan also contributed to the rushing game with 121 yards on the ground.

Warren Nitz was the best wideout in the league this week as Kevin Mcginty's team lost to Troy Schmidt's team. Nitz racked up one reception for 46 yards. Aaron Beckman helped Bishop Machebeuf's passing attack out by catching two balls for 35 yards.

Josh Mihalcin made the biggest impact on defense this week as Faith Christian defeated The Pinnacle. The 5-foot-10 junior recorded one fumble.

The Timberwolves' Hector Venegas and Chris Genovez have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Venegas has thrown for 567 yards this season, while Genovez, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 12 catches for 209 yards. Ty Overturf from the Buffaloes leads the league in rushing with 737 yards.

A big matchup in 2A Flatirons this week will be when Bishop Machebeuf takes on the Eagles. The Buffaloes are in third place, while Faith Christian is in second place.
