Softball Recap: Tuesday's Defeat Ends Live Oak's Winning Streak

Live Oak dropped their record down to 18-2 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's 13-game streak of wins. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Valley Christian Warriors. The Acorns were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2023.

Julianna Altamirano spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Live Oak saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Quinn Hulber-Dana, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

As for Valley Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 16 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.

On Valley Christian's side, the team relied heavily on Sia Marsh, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that Marsh has launched this season. Shyla Paredes was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

Looking ahead, Live Oak will face off against Silver Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Acorns are facing the Raiders at the right time seeing as the Raiders are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Valley Christian, they will square off against Archbishop Mitty at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors are on a four-game streak of home wins, the Monarchs a five-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.
