Football Recap: Braddox Sumner's Menacing Defense Leads Mount Airy over North Surry

Mount Airy won the last time they faced North Surry and Taeshon Martin did his part to make sure it happened again. The Granite Bears breezed past the Greyhounds to the tune of 63-21 on Friday thanks in part to Martin, who rushed for 232 yards and five TDs on only 12 carries. Thanks to that big game, he is now up to 10 rushing touchdowns on the season.

Kylan Mason was another key player, rushing for 76 yards and one touchdown. He didn't just play on offense: he also made 13 total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defended one pass.

Mount Airy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Braddox Sumner, Martin, and Aidan Pomeroy picked up one apiece. Martin also rushed for 232 rushing yards, which is notable because Mount Airy is undefeated when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 1-2 otherwise.

Although North Surry took the loss, they still got scores from Zamarri Sweatman, Gage Combs, and Cade Atkins.

The win made it two in a row for Mount Airy and bumps their season record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 49.5 points over those games. As for North Surry, they moved to 4-2 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Mount Airy didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 37-3 win against West Stokes on the 10th. As for North Surry, they have also already played their next contest, a 20-8 loss against East Surry on the 10th.
