The Tulpehocken Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Wyomissing Spartans at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Tulpehocken's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Wyomissing's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Tulpehocken will bounce into Monday's game after beating Pine Grove, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Tulpehocken put the hurt on Pine Grove with a sharp 9-2 victory on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won three matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Grant Gehman made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Gehman was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Luke Bowers, who scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Jared Baer also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Wyomissing hadn't done well against Blue Mountain recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Wyomissing came out on top against Blue Mountain by a score of 7-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.
Wyomissing also got a great performance from Chase Bailey as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
At the plate, Wyomissing let Teddy White and Noah Rauenzahn run wild. White scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Rauenzahn scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, White posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Parker LaFerriere was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Tulpehocken's record is now 4-2. As for Wyomissing, their record is now 3-1.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Tulpehocken has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. However, it's not like Wyomissing struggles in that department as they've averaged .487. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Tulpehocken suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Wyomissing when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Tulpehocken avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
