Recap: Morro Bay Pirates vs. Santa Ynez Pirates
The Morro Bay Pirates won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Thursday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 74-53 walloping at the hands of Santa Ynez. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Morro Bay in their matchups with Santa Ynez: they've now lost five in a row.
Morro Bay's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Justin Campbell, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Sands Doughtery, who scored eight points.
Ikenna Ofiaeli continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Santa Ynez, scoring 23 points along with eight rebounds. Jayden Mendoza was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Morro Bay's defeat dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Santa Ynez, their win bumped their record up to 11-12.
Morro Bay will be playing in front of their home fans against Santa Maria at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Santa Maria has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 881 points over their last 13 matchups. As for Santa Ynez, they will head out on the road to face off against Valley Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Valley Christian Academy will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
