Basketball Recap: West Lafayette Makes It Four in a Row on the Road

West Lafayette won the last time they faced Covington and things went their way on Saturday too. The West Lafayette Red Devils strolled past the Covington Trojans with points to spare, taking the game 70-51. Given the Red Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 67th, while the Trojans are ranked 325th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kaden Smith, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 10 points. Smith has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Austin Stein was another key player, going 5 for 8 on his way to 15 points.

West Lafayette pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.3 points per game. As for Covington, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-8.

West Lafayette will venture away from home to challenge Rensselaer Central at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Covington, they will face off against Parke Heritage at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
