Baseball Game Preview: Compass Academy vs. Lamesa Tornadoes

Compass Academy will head out on the road to take on the Lamesa Tornadoes at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Compass Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.

Compass Academy came out on top against Coahoma on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. Compass Academy walked away with a 7-3 victory over Coahoma. The win made it back-to-back victories for Compass Academy.

BRADEN HOGAN was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Lamesa fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Denver City on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They came up short against the Mustangs, falling 10-2. That makes it the first time this season the Tornadoes have let down their home crowd.

Michael Moreno was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jonah Muniz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Lamesa suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 9-11. As for Compass Academy, their win bumped their record up to 12-5.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Compass Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lamesa struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Compass Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Lamesa when the teams last played back in March, winning 6-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Compass Academy since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
