Softball Recap: Hilltop Cadets vs. Batavia Bulldogs

After flying high against St. Ursula Academy on Saturday, Hilltop came back down to earth. The Hilltop Cadets took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Batavia Bulldogs on Saturday. Hilltop was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Batavia apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2021.

Kelsy Connolly spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Halle Jones was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, a double, and an RBI.

On Batavia's side, they also let their pitcher toss all nine innings and she was also dialed-in: Tegan Hughbanks gave up only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Batavia let Ni'Asia McCall and Aerianna King loose on the outfield. McCall scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while King scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Hilltop's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Batavia, they pushed their record up to 2-0 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Hilltop will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Edgerton at 5:00 p.m. As for Batavia, they have the luxury of staying home for another game and will welcome Blanchester at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Blanchester and Batavia are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads.
