Basketball Recap: Cedaredge Beats Grand Valley for Their 17th Straight Victory

Cedaredge put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past the Grand Valley Cardinals 52-26. Given the Bruins' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 58th, while the Cardinals are ranked 256th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cedaredge's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Carley Malinowski led the charge by putting up 21 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. The contest was Malinowski's fourth in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Abby Brooks, who went 7 for 11 on her way to 17 points.

Cedaredge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Grand Valley's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Taylor Pittman, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards, and Camden Stevens, who posted ten points. That's the most points Pittman has posted since back in March of 2024. Leah Stark also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Cedaredge pushed their record up to 17-0 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 21.6 points over those games. As for Grand Valley, their record is now 5-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cedaredge will venture away from home to face off against Meeker at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Grand Valley, they will head out to take on Roaring Fork at 2:30 p.m. on February 15th.
