Baseball Recap: Urbana Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

After only two runs in their last match, Urbana made sure to put some runs up on the board against St. Thomas More on Wednesday. Urbana came out on top against St. Thomas More by a score of 16-13. For the Tigers, this counts as revenge for the 16-7 victory the Sabers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Corey Johnson and Isaac Armstrong did most of the damage at the plate: Johnson scored four runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Armstrong scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances. Those three runs gave Armstrong a new career-high. Malik Lawrence was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

The win (which was Urbana's third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.3 runs this season. As for St. Thomas More, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Coming up, Urbana will head out on the road to square off against Mahomet-Seymour at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Mahomet-Seymour's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Urbana's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for St. Thomas More, they will welcome St. Joseph-Ogden at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. This will be St. Thomas More's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
