Basketball Game Preview: Woodlawn Bears vs. Poyen Indians

Woodlawn hasn't had much luck against Poyen recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Woodlawn Bears will face off against the Poyen Indians at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Woodlawn comes in on six and Poyen on nine.

Last Tuesday, Woodlawn made easy work of Magnet Cove and carried off a 64-40 win. The Bears have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Poyen beat Junction City 64-60 on Tuesday. Given the Indians' advantage in MaxPreps' Arkansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Dragons are ranked 117th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Poyen pushed their record up to 18-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 29.5 points. As for Woodlawn, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season.

Woodlawn might still be hurting after the 50-24 defeat they got from Poyen in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. Can Woodlawn avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
