Baseball Recap: Lutheran Sets Scoring Season-High Against San Marcos Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lutheran). Everything went their way against the San Marcos Academy Bears on Tuesday as the Lutheran Mustangs made off with a 23-3 victory. The Mustangs have beaten the Bears the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bears has come to flipping the script.

Austin Eickstead was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Keegan Stinson was incredible, firing off three home runs, eight RBI, and four runs while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Lutheran's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't). Brayden Larsen was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Lutheran was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as San Marcos Academy only posted a batting average of .250.

Lutheran's record is now 7-5. As for San Marcos Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Lutheran will have a chance to go back-to-back against San Marcos Academy: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
