After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Muir, Oxford Academy was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Samueli Academy Firewolves a 14-0 shutout. Considering the Patriots have won eight contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Mia Sierra made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Sierra was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shay Tiettmeyer, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Xiomara Martinez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one double.
Oxford Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Samueli Academy only posted an OBP of .105.
Oxford Academy's win bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Samueli Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oxford Academy will head out to square off against Portola at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Samueli Academy, they are taking a road trip to face off against Rancho Alamitos at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Samueli Academy has given up an average of 13.2 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
