Basketball Recap: Maplewood Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when Maplewood faced off against Valor College Prep on Friday. The Maplewood Panthers were beaten by the Valor College Prep Wildcats 73-32. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 330th, while the Wildcats are ranked 135th).

Valor College Prep's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kobe Cotton, who went 7-for-11 to rack up 16 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. Cotton is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Colette Love, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards.

Maplewood's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Valor College Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 23-2 record this season.

As of now, neither Maplewood nor Valor College Prep have any future games scheduled.
