Basketball Recap: Overhills Beats Harnett Central for Their Second Straight Victory

If Harnett Central wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Overhills, they should've done a better job of containing Najiha Allen. The Jaguars blew past the Trojans 68-19 on Tuesday for which the team can thank Allen, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards. The matchup was her sixth in a row with at least 18 points.

Paris Autry was another key player, going 8-for-12 en route to 20 points. She has been hot, having posted 15 or more points the last six times she's played.

Despite the defeat, Harnett Central saw an underclassman step up: freshman Emma Avery shot 50% from the field to rack up 12 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiyana Bynum, who posted two points and nine boards.

Overhills has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 41 points this season. As for Harnett Central, they dropped their record down to 1-1 with the loss, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Overhills will be taking part in a tournament against NC GBB Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Harnett Central, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Triton at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
