Basketball Recap: Leakey Comes Up Short

Leakey was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 29th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were dealt an 81-30 loss at the hands of the Utopia Buffaloes. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-11.

Utopia's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jett Smothers, who posted 16 points in addition to six assists and six rebounds. Smothers is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Taylor Wiekamp, who scored 19 points along with five boards and four steals.

Leakey's defeat dropped their record down to 0-16. As for Utopia, their win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-4.

Leakey will welcome Comstock at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Comstock will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Leakey surely won't give up without a fight. As for Utopia, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 76-36 win against Nueces Canyon on the 20th.
