Football Preview: Knox County Eagles vs. Schuyler County Rams
The Knox County Eagles will head out to take on the Schuyler County Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Knox County is no doubt hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Knox County came up short against Bishop LeBlond last Saturday, falling 52-28. While losing is never fun, Knox County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri football rankings (they are ranked 34th, while Bishop LeBlond is ranked fourth).
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Schuyler County). They blew past Keytesville, posting a 60-26 victory on the road.
Elliot Sevits continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 197 yards and four touchdowns on only 14 carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 53 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another player making a difference was Brody Weaver, who rushed for 45 yards and three touchdowns.
He was just one part of a punishing run game: Schuyler County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 348 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Keytesville only rushed for 117.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Schuyler County's defense and their five sacks. Gus Williams was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up 3.5himself.
Knox County's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Schuyler County, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Knox County was dealt a bruising 72-20 defeat at the hands of Schuyler County in their previous meeting back in November of 2023. Can Knox County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
