Mission Viejo is 0-3 against Mater Dei since November of 2017 but things could change on Friday. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mission Viejo comes in on five and Mater Dei on three.

Mission Viejo is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of California's top teams: Los Alamitos, who was ranked 22nd at the time (Mission Viejo was ranked seventh). The Diablos simply couldn't be stopped two weeks ago as they easily beat the Griffins 76-49. The Diablos' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mission Viejo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Luke Fahey, who threw for 569 yards and five touchdowns while completing 77.4% of his passes, and also rushed for 42 yards and one TD. With that strong performance, Fahey is now averaging an impressive 310.8 passing yards per game. One of the most notable was Ryan Hopkins, who threw for 295 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 14.0 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 30 yards. Those five passing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Chris Henry Jr. was in the mix as well, providing Mater Dei with two TDs.

Mater Dei's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Mission Viejo, their victory bumped their record up to 9-1.

Mission Viejo suffered a grim 49-24 defeat to Mater Dei in their previous meeting back in November of 2019. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Diablos were down 28-3.
