Soccer Recap: Maury Comes Up Short

After flying high against Churchland on Wednesday, Maury came back down to earth. The Commodores took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Nansemond River Warriors on Friday. The loss continues a trend for Maury in their meetings with Nansemond River: they've now lost three in a row.

Maury's goal came courtesy of Zareya Owens, who's now up to nine this season.

Maury's defeat dropped their record down to 11-3. As for Nansemond River, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maury will challenge Norview at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Nansemond River, they will square off against Hickory at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Nansemond River have won six straight at home, while Hickory won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
