Softball Recap: Rochester Wins Going Away Against Montesano

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pe Ell/Willapa Valley, Rochester was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They blew past the Montesano Bulldogs 12-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Layna Demers made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Addi Morgan and Cheyenne Justice did most of the damage at the plate: Morgan went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI, while Justice went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most runs Morgan has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Mckenna Vassar, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Rochester kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.

Rochester is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Montesano, their loss ended a 13-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 15-5-1.

Rochester will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bulldogs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
