Baseball Game Preview: Onaga Buffaloes vs. Frankfort Wildcats

Onaga hasn't had much luck against Frankfort recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Buffaloes will venture away from home to challenge the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Onaga comes in on four and Frankfort on five.

Last Monday, Onaga got the win against Centralia by a conclusive 14-4. The result was nothing new for the Buffaloes, who have now won five games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Jackson Kolterman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Casen Hutfles was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Onaga's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Xavier Berges also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Onaga kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 10.2.

Meanwhile, Frankfort made easy work of Blue Valley on Monday and carried off an 11-1 win. Considering the Wildcats have won three contests by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Onaga's record now sits at 6-4. As for Frankfort, their record is now 5-1.

Onaga suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Frankfort when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Buffaloes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
