Softball Recap: Kirtland Central Drops Season-High Score on Newcomb

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kirtland Central). They never let the Newcomb Skyhawks get on the board and left with a 20-0 victory on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Broncos needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Caylin Belin made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Tamirra Chee was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Easton Myhers, who scored four runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Kirtland Central hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 4-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Kirtland Central's win bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Newcomb, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kirtland Central will square off against Sandia at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
