Volleyball Recap: Newton Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Hydi Bierman and Paige Wagner

Newton was the 2-0 winner over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Eagles fell just short of Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg by a score of 2-1 on Monday. The Eagles' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Newton sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The match finished with set scores of 25-14, 22-25, 25-11.

Paige Wagner and Hydi Bierman certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Wagner had 11 assists and eight digs, while Bierman had 12 digs and eight kills. Bierman is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had five or more in each of the last 15 games she's played.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg found their leader in freshman Abree Zalman, who had nine digs and two aces.

Newton's loss dropped their record down to 19-15. As for Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, they have been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-10 record this season.

Newton will face off against Paris at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 2-0 victory against Tuscola on the 21st.
