Rice Memorial faced St. Johnsbury Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Green Knights walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Hilltoppers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-1 back in September.

Rice Memorial had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 16-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-21.

Mary Biggins paced Rice Memorial's offense, picking up 18 kills. Biggins got some help from Trinity Angle and her 26 assists. Nicole Donnelly and Brookie McCormack kept things locked in from the service line: the pair finished with four aces apiece.

Despite the loss, St. Johnsbury Academy still got an impressive performance from Faith Lawton, who had 11 digs and three assists. Stephanie Gagnon also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.

Rice Memorial is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. As for St. Johnsbury Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rice Memorial will challenge Essex at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for St. Johnsbury Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mt. Mansfield at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
