Volleyball Recap: Avery County Triumphs

Avery County lost to West Wilkes last Thursday, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Wednesday. The Vikings walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Blackhawks. The game was the first time the Vikings have beaten the Blackhawks on their court since September 28, 2015.

Avery County was especially dominant in the first set. The match finished with set scores of 25-15, 25-20, 22-25, 25-21.

Avery County had a senior duo take command as Hallie Johnson had 35 assists and 24 digs and Kylie Holtsclaw had 36 digs. Those 24 digs set a new season-high mark for Johnson. Caitlin Shapiro was another key player, getting 18 digs.

The win made it two in a row for Avery County and bumps their season record up to 3-1. As for West Wilkes, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Coincidentally, Avery County and West Wilkes will both be playing Wilkes Central the next time they take the court. The Blackhawks will head out to face the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Vikings will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
