Basketball Recap: Norfolk Collegiate Mighty Oaks vs. Kempsville Chiefs
It was a good run, but the Norfolk Collegiate Mighty Oaks unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 71-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of Kempsville. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Norfolk Collegiate's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brennan Chatman, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Justin Burrough was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight rebounds and five blocks.
Norfolk Collegiate's defeat dropped their record down to 20-4. As for Kempsville, they pushed their record up to 16-3 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Norfolk Collegiate won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Warriors at 2:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Kecoughtan will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 160th, while the Mighty Oaks are ranked eighth). Kempsville's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on February 6th. Landstown is coming into the game hot, having won their last 12 games.
