The Jesuit Tigers will face off against the Countryside Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Jesuit 2.3, Countryside 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Jesuit is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Bonita Springs a 9-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.
Jesuit got a great performance from Brady Hoar as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Hoar has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Brody Smith was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Waechter, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Jesuit always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bonita Springs only posted an OBP of .192.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Countryside ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They skirted past Seminole 3-2. Three seems to be a good number for the Cougars as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
The team relied heavily on Braeden Callahan, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Luke Neubauer, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.
Jesuit has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Countryside, they pushed their record up to 20-8 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road.
Countryside's pitching crew better be locked in on Monday. Jesuit hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. It's a different story for Countryside, though, as they've been averaging only 0 home runs. Will they be able to keep Jesuit in the park?
Jesuit took their win against Countryside when the teams last played last Wednesday by a conclusive 7-0 score. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
