Baseball Game Preview: Morenci Bulldogs vs. Vandercook Lake Jayhawks

The Morenci Bulldogs will take on the Vandercook Lake Jayhawks at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The last three games Morenci has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Wednesday, Morenci didn't have quite enough to beat Sand Creek and fell 4-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their meetings with the Aggies: they've now lost eight in a row.

Morenci saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Wyatt Stevens, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. That RBI was Stevens' first of the season.

Meanwhile, Vandercook Lake was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 16th straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 12-0 to Homer.

Vandercook Lake's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Morenci, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.

Vandercook Lake's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Morenci has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Vandercook Lake, though, as they've been averaging only 3 strikeouts. Will Morenci keep running through batters, or will the Jayhawks buck the trend?

Everything went Morenci's way against Vandercook Lake in their previous meeting back in May of 2022, as Morenci made off with a 13-2 victory. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Jayhawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
