Baseball Recap: Boone Triumphs

Boone came out on top against Lyman on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run fifth inning. The Braves had just enough and edged out the Greyhounds 11-10. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 7-2 back in February.

Gunnar Rorman looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Chace Merritt was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Boone's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Lucas Castro also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Boone's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Lyman, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Boone will be taking part in a tournament against Olympia at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Titans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Braves' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lyman, they will take on Lake Howell at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Greyhounds' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Silverhawks have averaged an impressive 6.1 runs per game this season.
