Recap: Cherokee Trail Cougars vs. Pueblo West Cyclones
The Cherokee Trail Cougars won against the Pueblo West Cyclones on Tuesday with 59 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Wednesday. Cherokee Trail took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 59-27 win over Pueblo West. Given Cherokee Trail's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while Pueblo West is ranked 30th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cherokee Trail's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Damara Allen led the charge by scoring 12 points along with 4 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Madeline Gibbs, who scored 12 points.
When it comes to explaining why Pueblo West lost, one person who can't be blamed is Trynity Martin. Despite the final result, she scored 10 points.
The win makes it two in a row for Cherokee Trail and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Pueblo West, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Cherokee Trail will head out on the road to face off against Castle View at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Pueblo West, they will face off against Dakota Ridge at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Dakota Ridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Wednesday.
